this is your very first picture as a life form. you're the little bright spot in the middle. i think we had found out about your existence about a week before, right after we had come back from our ritual beginning-of-summer beach trip to port aransas. the doc told us at that first appointment that your estimated due date would be March 4th, 2013. march forth!
well, guess what. that was yesterday!

four weeks ago, this is what you looked like:
i'm already amazed by your existence, and your incredible growth. and my incredible growth too! we are both huge! and that's exactly the way we're supposed to be. i thank you for being a (mostly) easy and convenient pregnancy so far, and your father and i are really looking forward to meeting you face to face.
but let's back up.
you have already been on the other side of the world having adventures, how about that! we took you as a 8.5 week old stowaway to Korea, where he is originally from. it was a wonderful trip, and we hope to bring you back sometime so you can actually SEE everything. after all, half your genetic material originates here, and there is much to do and see and learn about the culture that goes along with those genes! we had a spectacular time, and you did get your first tastes of Korean food. this is how you looked right after we got back:
much more like a person! head to the left, body/leg/arm buds to the right. at this point we simply referred to you as the Bean. to wrap up the summer, we went to the beach one more time...this time we knew you were with us.
school started just as we were entering our second trimester together...the first trimester was relatively easy, and i'm thankful for that! with the second trimester came some pretty serious heartburn though...they say it's because a baby has a lot of hair, so i guess we'll see shortly about that. hard to tell in this picture from 12 weeks...but we can easily see your hand in front of your face, where it has apparently stayed this whole time! maybe a delicious thumb?
your aunt robin and uncle jonathan got married sept. 2nd, and you'd been floating around in there for 14 weeks at that point. here we all are...your grandparents, your newlywed aunt and uncle, and your parents! and you, still small, and covered up by flowers....
6 weeks later, we went on a little weekend getaway to fort worth for our 4th anniversary. you got to go to the zoo and an art museum for the first time! although, again, you didn't really get to SEE anything...we're looking forward to showing you all the amazing things in the world. it was nice to know you were there, though.
the monday after our fort worth weekend, we got another look at you. this would be the last time until the picture from 4 weeks ago up at the beginning. this was the first time we'd seen your face really, and also when we found out you are a boy!
there's your hand right in front of your face, and it sorta looks like you're smiling. i hope you're cozy in there.
we debated whether or not to find out if you were a boy or a girl, and we almost didn't! i'm glad we did though, it's been fun to think of you as Donnie. Donald Thomas Ho Cameroneil: Donald from your maternal grandfather, Thomas from your paternal grandfather, Ho from your dad's Korean name, and Cameroneil, the combination of your daddy's and my last names (Cameron and O'Neil). it is a good name, a fully american name, and also honors your maternal great-grandfather, who was an amazing man named Donald as well. incidentally, he went by don, your grandfather goes by dee, and we're calling you donnie, although you are welcome to change it if you'd prefer. (donnie also happens to be the name of our favorite martial arts action movie star, donnie yen, who is a super badass. i know that's not polite language, but it's true.) some name meanings:
Donald = ruler of the world (no kidding!....but no pressure)
Thomas = twin (but you aren't one, but there have been LOTS of very important thomases that aren't.)
Ho = tiger (in korean, part of your dad's original name)
Cameroneil = original combination of cameron, which means crooked nose, and o'neil, which means son of great warrior.
anyway, do with that information what you will. your daddy and i agreed very early on that you would be named after our daddies, because they are both dear, honorable and loving men. we can't wait to introduce you to them. and to your devoted and very excited grandmothers too!
after 20 weeks, we didn't get to peek at you inside me for a long time. but you definitely started making your physical presence known...
